The Sanctuary - Penguin Books UK

Huda Ammash aka Mrs Anthrax - a scientist; a daughter of a former minister of defense; rumored to be the head of Iraq's biological weapons program No shade, but this was better than I expected! I read it on a whim because it was mentioned on No Such Thing as a Fish, and really, I thought it was good! The Sanctuary is a well-written slow burn mystery which builds over the course of the book to a gripping, thrilling conclusion. The author has once again used a setting that is, in theory, vast but manages to make it feel very claustrophobic. There is no chance of escape from The Sanctuary. If dehydration or heat stroke doesn't kill you, the wildlife probably will! I loved how well the author conveys Zoey's rising hopelessness as her situation slowly dawned on her.In each of these situations Daniel and/or his friends are faced with the choice between following God’s will or obeying the dictates of human authority. They chose to obey God rather than man. They knew that man must not be allowed to judge on eternal matters for GOD IS MY JUDGE. To HIM they must be true. The writing was excellent and compelling in places and the plot seemed to jog along nicely as I dipped in and out. There was a lot in this book that I enjoyed - especially the dynamics between the various characters, the luxurious-but-sinister setting and the slow unfolding of the mystery. I'll admit that I couldn't see the solution, even as I was nearing the end, so it kept me reading. I also found the pacing of the second half of the novel to be compelling - as the danger increased, so did my interest. This was an enjoyable read. I will say the twisty bits were a bit unbelievable, but the book was very entertaining and enjoyable. Who are the Daniels who chose to serve God rather than man? For yes, we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, each to give an account of himself. It is Christ who will enable us to stand if we are IN HIM. Only those IN CHRIST will have eternal life. Is Christ our MASTER? Each to his own master must stand or fall. If Christ is our MASTER, he will enable us to stand, and if we are in HIM, there will come no condemnation upon us.

The Sanctuary by Emma Haughton | Goodreads

Tom Webster aka Bill Kirkwood - an archeologist-historian with the Haldane Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World I beheld till the thrones were set down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. I found the protagonist particularly unlikeable, though intelligent and resourceful, she was just not my cup of tea. Introduction to Daniel The whole book of Daniel focuses upon God’s judgement. Daniel’s name means, “God is my Judge”. The stories in the first part of the book of Daniel reveal the issues in judgment. These we cannot now develop fully, but we hope to do so in a book soon. Now we want to look at the role of the sanctuary of heaven as found in Daniel and how the forces on earth, have, at every step tried to counterfeit and draw people away from Christ’s ministry, and replace it with human designs and counterfeits. This book was very slow in the beginning. The blurb had me totally intrigued but the blurb just explained the first few chapters. I felt initially that the story wasn’t going anywhere and I thought maybe this was just going to be about a girl in rehab. Raymond's 8th novel is an epic alternate history and time travel story that Publishers Weekly called "ingeniously inventive" and "a classic of the genre": It is already out in the UK as THE OTTOMAN SECRET, and is out on Oct 1 in the US under a different title, EMPIRE OF LIES. Andrew Hunter Murray has a very cool, detached, almost period writing style - combined with the dismal setting (it's never really explained how we get from where we are now to this miserable future) made the first act difficult to engage with - but the whole feel of the book changes with the second act when the action moves to a private island - the sanctuary of the book's title. This is an apparently utopian society, constructed by the billionaire behind the Villages. Ben manages to get to the island (half-killing himself in the process) to see his fiancée who works there - he expects to hate the place, but initially he finds it beguiling.

The Sanctuary by Raymond Khoury | Goodreads

Desperate to make her retreat work, she is not who she purports to be, but one of her guests knows who she is. And she's not going to let it go. Really very good! The premise seemed a little too familiar at first but I’m always happy to be proved wrong and pleasantly surprised. A group of people are holed up in a remote location, in this case a rehab centre in a deliberately inaccessible desert location. Our main character doesn’t remember how she got there or why and can’t work out why anyone would sponsor her the huge fees to be there either. Ramez - a diminutive, hyperactive ex-student of Evelyn; an assistant professor in Evelyn's department; a Shi'iteThe journey to the island is a harsh and challenging one and when he does arrive, Ben discovers that the community on the island is a secretive one and they do not welcome uninvited visitors.

The Sanctuary by Andrew Hunter Murray | Waterstones

There are acts of sabotage, some truly upsetting scenes and stories coming out and this turns it into a book that I could barely put down.I gulped that book down in one - so I was thrilled that NetGalley granted me access to Haughton's next book, 'The Sanctuary'. My biggest problem was that it didn't capture my attention, so I was mostly bored, which also meant that my attention was drifting (mostly listened to the audiobook - the author did a great job narrating it!). I didn't really like the main character either, and wasn't particularly interested in the mysterious island. At first, Zoey just wants to leave. Then, she decides to make the most of being there, despite The Sanctuary's unorthodox methods, like using psychedelics. Still, she wonders why a previous resident left in anger. And, when one of the therapists is found dead in the swimming pool, she begins to wonder whether being at The Sanctuary could be dangerous. The book of Hebrews was written to draw people’s eyes away from the earthly services of the sanctuary and focus us upon Christ, the Heavenly High Priest, Who, with His own blood, shed in that ONCE AND FOR ALL sacrifice, entered into the heavenly sanctuary not made with human hands. There He is our constant Priest, making atonement for us, just as in the type, the earthly priest, after the sacrifice of the atonement was made, “administered an atonement for the person”. (Lev.4:20,26,31)
