Eleven: Football Manager Board Game

You will be faced with the task of managing and developing your own football club to dominate the league and defeat your opponents at the end of the season. Now, with hindsight, I contend this uproar was deserved, as Eleven is a wonderful game that overcomes some haphazard execution to produce a design that falls just short of brilliant.

Who knows, maybe getting your non-football-watching gamer friends to play this could even spark an interest in the sport. Diluting the core game to facilitate more players was, in my opinion, not a move of belief but one of compromise.Within each third of the field, you can choose which shirts are in the center, and you are allowed to place up to one shirt in each wing (outside) area. The Club Board is a place for your Staff cards and 4 Statistics tracks – Cash, Fan Base, Operation and Fitness. The table is setup to start the game – markets for advertisers, staff members, and regular players are made – 5 cards from each respective deck – it is helpful to separate the rightmost three cards (available now) from the two on the left (coming soon). I do think there is a natural allure for those who enjoy the general concept of sports team management. In fact, games of Eleven really come down to this: you play a tactics card to detail your formation–4-3-3, 3-5-2, all the standards you are probably used to if you are a soccer nut.

Eleven is a strategic game by Thomas Jansen ( Club Stories, Tavern, Streetpainball ) set in the world of football. The game is played over six rounds, each round representing a week in the league and itself broken up into 5 days (Monday through Thursday and then “the weekend”/match day). Almost all of the reviews on Board Game Quest are from review copies of a game provided by the publisher. After that, things get tricky: you have athletes who have better stats that can be hired and then they cost one training resource token to activate. Hire Staff – again, you can only take from the rightmost three cards in the display, paying the cost on the card.I still look forward to playing the game, and I am seriously thinking about investing in some of the five small expansions that will add a new dimension to the game. Additionally, the difficulty level of the game is chosen, and each player gets six opponents; one to play each week.

I made the active decision that this would be the year that I got into the English Premier League, that I started paying attention in a more serious way to the world’s most popular sport.But then you also have to add three card markets for new staff members, new players (including a separate stack for adding rookies, known as “youngsters”, to your team), and new sponsors. Use a Card action – You can take an action listed on a staff or director card; turn the card 90 degrees to show that it has been used this week. Die rolls feel out of place, even though they mirror what happens in real football matches (but how accurate does a football board game adaptation have to be? Because your starting team is so bad, working to slowly upgrade it and your production levels makes for a solid challenge.

The stadium board starts mostly empty, though a few sponsor spaces are pre-printed filled in on the board. When you compare the result to your directors’ cards, it’ll tell you which of the three outcomes on the board meeting card came to pass.Football fans will get a kick out of it, and even those who don’t love football but do like mid-weight Euros won’t relegate this game. It’s unfortunate that these scenarios don’t apply to multiplayer sessions, but it’s the clear indicator that Eleven is best experienced as a game for one.
