If you are using it like you might a conventional choker then it would obviously be harmful but the way to use it is to allow the dog to correct itself, or at most, a slight twitching of your hand to give a gentle tapping effect until the dog eases back into position. For added safety, there is also a close control handle for if things get busy, and a secure reinforced trigger clip. The material is soft so doesn’t hurt my hand and the flat design is better for my dog noses doesn’t leave any marks! Perfect for all types of training and made from soft padded material, this lead very comfortable to hold. Its two-tone design, made from premium grade nylon webbing, ensures you’re both stylish and comfortable.

Completely, we have used this method with three different dogs and they all walk nicely without it now but when they were young if we were out and about it was very useful. RECOMMENDED: The Halti Training Leash is a favorite amongst dogs and owners worldwide and has become a must-have for pet parents and trainers. I have always had a slip lead because with my last dog I never used anything else, but she was perfectly behaved. If the lead was around their neck and they were pulling then I can see a problem but by looping the lead a having it across their nose there is absolutely no pressure on their throat. The biggest problem I see when beginner handlers are training heelwork is their failure to give sincere sounding and, to begin with, prolific praise. We do not recommend leaving any type of body worn training aid on your dog for long periods of time and dogs should never be left unattended wearing products like headcollars, harnesses, and muzzles. If the dog is regularly running through undergrowth, then we would recommend removing the harness altogether.

This isn't true at all: my older dog will put her head through the loop on command, even at the end of a walk and without a treat. I am going to continue training with the slip at home until I am 100% sure of her then start taking her out on walks with it and dump the harness unless she is tracking when she should be wearing one. For an extra helping hand we recommend using the Halti Training Lead with your Halti Headcollar or Harness so that you have more control when walking your dog. Wouldn't dream of using one to control pulling though - what I saw with Flynn was extremely scary and just in case it was caused by the lead. If I had unclipped the lead from her harness she would have been off like a rocket hunting as we were in a large field. The way he pulls he has bruised himself with the harness (was too hot and the lack of oxygen allowed for bruising when he began lunging), is it better to keep him lunging than the discomfort with the slip harness? Perhaps she sells the 'special' halter but it had exactly the same fit/effect as using a slip lead - if she had taken the trouble to position it correctly! Once they know this, I am prepared to correct them - and still use a lot of praise when they're in the right spot.

With Kali she never reacts or pulls to anything and it's great to just get the lead, slip it over her neck and we're off.Why not pair your Halti Training Leash with a Halti Headcollar or Harness and start your no pull training today. I only use slip leads when I'm doing agility, it's easier just slipping a loop over their heads rather than trying to find a clip. For an extra helping hand we recommend using the Halti Training Leash with your Halti no pull Headcollar or Harness so that you have more control when walking your dog. The versatile Halti Training Leash can be set to 3 different lengths for relaxed to controlled leash walking.
