Description

The Jack Wolfskin quality that we all know and love rings true with these trousers, offering good waterproofing with the brands own Texapore fabric. Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes. The Craghoppers Steall II are the second version of the top waterproof trousers from the best-selling brand.

The Maitland GORE-TEX® Overtrousers are fully waterproof and articulated to fit making sure your pants are extremely comfortable no matter where your adventure takes you. In a line: The Regatta Chandler Overtrousers III may not be the best performing, but they are a great cheap option to have ‘just in case’.Beyond that, the trousers are very comfortable to wear (they are worn on their own, as opposed to standalone trousers), though they can get quite warm. Range of movement is as you’d expect from a normal pair of walking trousers, and they are super comfortable. The trousers have a good, slim profile, so they don’t catch the wind, while elastic ankle cuffs help close out the elements.

For a start, they are extremely lightweight and packable, meaning they will take up little space in your pack and you’ll hardly notice them. There is reinforced material on the knees and on the rear, while you’ll also find two hand-warmer pockets. These over trousers from Berghaus are equipped with GORE-TEX technology, making them waterproof and breathable; ideal for exploring the outdoors when the weather turns. There is quite a bit of fabric on the legs, meaning the wind catches it easily, but this does ensure a good range of movement. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

There are Velcro tabs that run up to the knee, allowing you to cinch it in and stop it flapping in the wind or getting caught by anything, and a large storm flap covers the zips to help half water ingress. However, unlike the Regatta trousers, the Pouring Adventure Pant has zips on each leg that come mid-way up your thigh, allowing you to slip them on easier. The Craghoppers Kiwi Pro Waterproof Trousers are different to a lot of our other best waterproof trousers for 2019 in that they are not over trousers. However, the fit let it down - with some readers complaining of their trousers being overly wide around the legs or ‘tight in some places and roomy in others’. Like joint top-scorer Rohan, they’re breathable, too, something many of the cheaper brands struggle to achieve.Instead, these two pairs of good, high-quality waterproof trousers should suffice for the bulk of hill walkers and weekend mountaineers.

There are poppers at the ankles to cinch the trousers in on your boots, while there is a storm flap that covers the zips to help protect against water ingress. Speaking of the rucksack, the packability of the waterproof trousers, particularly the overtrousers, is an important factor to consider. If you’re aiming to be navigating wild terrain and scrambling in the rain, the tougher trousers are going to be the best bet.
