Sponges are made of synthetic materials such as polyester, and have a tendency to hold moisture for a long time. And we know that moist environments lead to unfavorable bacteria or mold growth. Wet sponges become a breeding ground for bacteria which leads to odors. (When you have a stinky sponge on your hands, it’s time to clean it!) Part sponge, part absorbent towel, Swedish dishrags really are a versatile cleaning tool in the kitchen and around the house. If you also want to get in on these new biodegradable, compostable, and eco-Friendly Swedish Dish Cloths Australia is Loving, you can shop for them here or register for wholesale here.

The Swedish dishcloth is an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional sponge and serves as a paper towel replacement. It’s made of a blend of cellulose and cotton which makes it highly absorbent while also being biodegradable. There are five ways you can clean it—in the dishwasher, microwave, boiling on a stovetop, adding to a load in the washing machine, or bleaching it. Highly absorbent: They holds 15x of their own weight in liquid, therefore replacing the need for multiple rolls of wasted paper towel.

The original Swedish dishcloths were invented in 1949 by a Swedish Engineer. They are a special kitchen cloth made from a mixture of plant-based cellulose and cotton compositions. The unique formula produces dry flat sheets like a cloth, yet it has the very high absorption properties of a sponge. Once wet, the cloth feels beautifully soft and malleable. Don’t use fabric softener: Fabric softener in general is not good for your laundry nor your Swedish dishcloths. Not only are commercial fabric softeners filled with chemicals, they make natural fibers such as towels and dishcloths less absorbent over time. Dryer sheets are also coated in fabric softener. Read more about why it’s time to ditch laundry sheets, and how to use vinegar to soften clothes instead.

So start with one simple swap, or aim for the totally zero-waste kitchen. That smell comes from bacteria thriving within the sponge – and part of the problem is that sponges take much longer to dry. With regular use, it’s much more likely that your kitchen sponge never gets the chance to dry fully, creating a prolonged period of bacterial growth (and decreasing its useful life in the process). These dishcloths are made in Sweden to create a top quality, authentic product. Paper towels are useful for cleaning up spills, keeping herbs fresh, and lots of other kitchen tasks, but they’re pretty wasteful. It takes a lot of water and trees to make single-use rolls that will go straight in the garbage. There are lots of eco-friendlier paper towel alternatives available, though, and one of the more popular styles is the Swedish dishcloth. What is a Swedish dishcloth? You can use your Swedish dishcloth to clean with water, soap, or your favorite household cleaners. (Psst. If you’re looking to break free from chemicals, look no further! Our dishcloths are so effective that many customers choose to use water or natural-based soap for a more environmentally friendly cleaning routine.) No matter how you use them, our Swedish dishcloths: The EcoGurus Swedish Dishcloth: These were the lowest-scoring set of towels in the absorbency round, soaking up 96.6% of the water and leaving behind a noticeable amount of droplets. We also weren’t impressed with their dish-drying abilities. Given that Edelman says one cloth can do the work of 50 to 100 rolls of paper towel, you’ll save dozens of dollars each month just on paper towels. How’s that for cleaning up nicely?
