This is not the same. You can’t notice any difference in shooting with it on, I actually leave it on all the time.

Sony a7S II Overview - Digital Photography Review

When shooting with an OSS lens, the a7 II compensates for Roll as well as X and Y axis movements using sensor-based IS, Pitch and Yaw are compensated for using lens-based IS. When a non-OSS lens is affixed, even if it's a third party lens with an adapter, 5-axis IS is accomplished fully in-camera. Like the NEX-7, the A7 is a camera that you needed to spend an hour or two painfully customizing buttons and settings, but once done, it becomes pretty darned good. Handling-wise, the A7 II resembles a downsized DSLR, with a forward-placed shutter release button and front control wheel. It also has a deeper, more comfortable handgrip than its forebear. So should you expect similar image quality to what we've seen from the D750? Definitely not. For starters, they use comparable, yet different sensors and the D750's is likely newer. Also, its important to remember that camera companies process their Raw data in very different ways. In general, Sony Raw files are less versatile than Nikon ones. The reason being that the a7 II and Sony cameras do not provide lossless 14-bit Raw data like Nikon, Canon and most other manufacturers do. Sony instead uses lossy compression, and an odd implementation at that, resulting in all around-less malleable files than the competition. You can read more about Sony's Raw compression here. It's important to note that there is no way around this compression.I figured that it would be similar to the image stabilization on the larger zoom lenses I’ve shot with, where you can see the image pausing as you move around and it only saving you a couple stops of light. Even with the Sony A7S, which offered 4K video and crazy good high ISO performance, its 12mp sensor and same funky ergonomics made it difficult for the average professional to completely fall in love with. Eye-level composition is achieved via a crystal-clear 2.36million-dot, 0.5-inch EVF, one that's so good that it’s easy to forget you aren’t using an optical finder. In addition to this, there’s a helpful sensor just above the EVF window, which detects when the camera is held to the eye and switches power from the main screen to the finder accordingly. A big question I have gotten a lot is whether there is any loss of image quality when using the adaptors. I bought the Voigtlander Close Focus Adapter and can tell you that there is nothing lost as far as IQ is concerned. If anything, the adapter offers a slight advantage. There is no glass in the adapter, and it has the ability to adjust the distance between mount and the sensor. This allows you to push the rear element away from the sensor enough to give you a shorter minimum focus distance when needed. The a7 II performs admirably in good light, with bright pleasing colors and plenty of detail. Processed using Adobe Lightroom 5.7.1. Shot at ISO 100, 1/500 sec at f/5.6.

While the A7 II’s tilting screen is useful when shooting low-level landscape-orientation images, like most screens it suffers a little from reflections and glare in very bright conditions. And of course, a tilting screen is of little use when shooting upright format images. We also found the a7 II to have 1-2 stops worse ISO performance than an a7S or D750, shown in our studio scene& confirmed by DXO. This poor ISO performance was more forgivable in the original a7 lineup, perhaps, but not 4 cameras in. Especially given all the competition- the 6D, D750, a7R, and a7S all outperform it by a good margin. Autofocus A big downfall for a lot of people, and something that seems to freak everyone out, is that the A7II only has a single SD card slot. For photographers simply looking to enter a full frame system, the choice becomes even more complicated. Traditionally, mirrorless cameras appeal to users seeking a smaller, lighter option to DSLRs. The a7 II is not particularly small or light, though to be fair, it is smaller and lighter than any full-frame DSLR on the market. It's also not a particularly quiet camera, something street photographers should definitely take into consideration. Also, as a system, the FE mount family of lenses is ever-growing. But they are pricey, pricier than a lot of comparable glass for Canon and Nikon full-frame cameras. Image Quality Faster Auto FocusCompared to the A7: This was one of the reasons I didn’t buy the original a7 when it came out.For myself, I’m not ready to ditch my DSLRs just yet, but I can now see it happening in the near future with the leaps and bounds Sony has made in the past couple years. Prior to the A7II, I didn’t see it this way. Image quality is essentially the same as that of the Sony a7; both have nearly identical guts, IBIS aside. The 24.3MP sensor found in both is remarkably versatile, even if it's not the newest sensor around. And while it's not the same sensor as the one found in the D750, they do have very similar specs, masked pixels for on-sensor PDAF aside. Not only do I use it on longer lenses, but it is amazingly handy on my 35mm and 50mm prime lenses when in low light situations and I have more wiggle room on shutter speed. The bottom line is that as a photographer, everything that Sony is doing should excite you. No matter what you shoot or how you shoot it. Image quality is the hardest thing to discuss on a camera review since lens options play a big role. Since I have been using expensive Leica glass on my Sony, it’s difficult for me to speak highly on the image quality and not have that fact brought up.
